Elena was found as a kid in a razed German town. It seemed that her family managed to survive Second Impact and the Festum's attack on Russia, only to face the body-horror horde of the Invaders later. The Invaders attacked the town without warning, and when the Federation managed to push the Invaders back to look for survivors, they could only find one bloody girl with empty stare. It seemed that her parents preferred to kill themselves and their kids rather than facing the Invaders' atrocities. They shot Elena and her baby brother, and then they shot themselves in the head. It's only by a miracle that Elena survived.
When the psychologists managed to wake her up from her catatonia, they met a cheery little girl with perfect memory of everything that had happened to her.
Excerpt from the interview:
"...life was full of fun. We traveled a lot, seeing a lot of new experiences. I used to live in a cool city up north, but then the bugs descended from the sky. It was an amazing sight to behold, but I don't really remember much. My parents kept urging me to move forward. I kinda missed the snow, but my family finally managed to settle south. Then, the Invaders suddenly appeared. It was just like a movie, full of explosions and beams, and people running away.
"My father said that we mustn't fall to the horde, so he pulled out a cool looking gun. He looked just like a hero back then. He then shot my brother Mikail, my mother, and then myself. Silly father. He needed more practice, because I woke up later. Then, as I lay down in the bale of hay, the awesomest thing happen. A full Federation fleet appeared above me..."
After the government orphanage, she enlisted herself into the military academy, because she wanted to 'see the world'. She joined the pilot academy, and graduated with flying colours later.
For one reason or another, despite her scores, she wasn't able to find employment in any normal military force. At the end, she joined the militia force that served an ill-fated Neo-German colony. Just a couple of months after she joined, the colony got punted into outer space...
She's never regretted her life. She says that if the world isn't at war right now, she'd have to live a boring live in a farming town in the middle of nowhere, instead of the current exciting and action-filled life of a mecha pilot.
Personality:
Elena is a young Russian girl in her early twenties. She always smiles and, with her pale skin and light blond hair, it's almost as if she's shining in the dark. Imaginative and optimistic, she's almost never down. She always see the bright side of life, even if everything seems bleak. The Invaders took control of Alaska? Good time for a change of surroundings for the fleeing Alaskan, and time for exciting new neighbours for the rest of the world! The Federation isn't losing, they're falling back strategically! Earth's army isn't outnumbered, we just prefer quality over quantity!
Some people would see straight at her dull, red eyes and could conclude that this girl is actually delusional. But most people never get too close and just see her as a cheery, imaginative girl.
Her friends from high school remember her as 'that smiling Russian girl.' She had a number of friends, but it seems that nobody got really close to her. She never had a boyfriend, but she remember back then that she had a crush on one cute guy in high school. She didn't really pursue the relationship after that one night stand since he's not interested, but she remember she did follow him around a lot... looking at him from the distance... taking candid pictures of him... having a lock of his hair that she took secretly to cuddle and smell in the night... sneaking into his room when he's not around...
You know, a typical young-girl-in-love act...
Too bad that the object of her affection moved out of town for some reason, because she was sure that she'll make him love her sooner or later.
She named her mecha Mikhail, and always calls it her brother. She's often seen caressing it gently, waxing it, and chatting to it, sometimes laughing as if it talks back to her. She get nervous and jittery when she's not able to talk to her mecha for a while, saying that 'my brother will get lonely'.
Capabilities and Resources:
Elena is actually a pretty talented pilot, as evidenced by her flying colours from her academy years. But she's pretty unhinged, and that's one of the few reasons why she only managed to join a militia company based on an out-of-the-way colony, where she worked as a scout.
She enjoys and excels at utilizing knives, for example, to cut birthday cakes evenly, crafting wooden dolls, and close-quarters combat.
She also has some other perfectly innocent abilities, for example she's also very good at memorizing area layouts, fiddling with simple mechanical devices like locks, and staying out of sight.

As with it counterpart Leo, Aries is an aging and obsolete mecha only utilized by the most tightly-budgeted militia. Aries is actually slightly newer than Leo, but it's more rarely used, since it's much less versatile.
Mounting a pair of large jet engine housings on its shoulders and aerodynamic control surfaces, the Aries is a mecha intended for atmospheric aerial combat. It's way more maneuverable than Leo in the air, but the flight capability sacrificed a lot of armour. It has a pair of retractable piddly legs to walk on earth, but it's definitely not meant for ground combat.
The Werchter militia gave their Aries permanent booster pack so it's capable of out-of-atmosphere flight as much as atmospheric flight. To better suit its role as a scout fighter, other than overhauling the electronics to give it better sensors and broadcasting capabilities, they also painted their Aries in radar-absorbing paint and tinkered with the exhaust system, to give it what limited attention-avoiding capability they could give, even though obviously it's not and will never be a full stealth fighter.
Elena's Aries is equipped with a chain rifle, four missile pods capable of independent and salvo firing, and a sonic knife as last resort weapon. An inventive and creative mechanic might be able to put creative, customized warheads in Elena's missiles.
